For owners, marketers, and agencies

Web development for a custom-coded website

hehe.software offers custom web development from supplied designs, front ends for existing systems and repairs on websites already in use. We work remotely from Vancouver with businesses and agencies across Canada and the United States, including on products we did not build. Email mwe@hehe.software or use the contact form with what you need; a defined sub-project, white-label or credited, is welcome.

Web development, properly.

Custom builds and the platforms you already use.

01

What we do on a custom site

A custom site from us is HTML, CSS, and JavaScript written for that site. Headings follow the page, the words are text, images reserve their space, and the layout holds on a phone and on a wide monitor. JavaScript covers a menu, a form, a filter, or a player.

Front-end development is that craft against a system you already run: the screens, then a connection to an API, a payment step, or a form destination you name.

Custom website development fits when a template will not hold the design, the page has to stay fast, or you want the repository. Weekly publishing with no developer in the loop belongs on WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Squarespace, or Wix, which we also build.

02

Typical jobs

A new marketing site needs a short page list, a form you can read the replies from, titles, a sitemap, redirects from the old addresses, and structured data that matches the page. A rebuild keeps those addresses and removes the page-builder markup that made a small edit fragile.

A front end on an API you already have might be a product list, a booking step, or a customer page. A fix-it job on a site we did not build might be a form that never sends, a menu that traps the keyboard, a layout that breaks at one width, or an image heavier than its slot.

We do not promise where a page will rank. When you ask for accessibility, we implement the technical side of WCAG, and we do not certify compliance.

03

How a project runs

Send the address if a site exists, what it must do, who changes it after launch, and any date that is real.

A fix is hourly. A new site or a rebuild is a fixed quote once the pages and the editing story are clear. A brief too open to price starts as paid discovery and ends in a written scope. You can stop after that. The scope is yours.

You keep the domain, the hosting, and the repository. We build on a preview and publish after you review. Handoff covers how a sentence changes, where the form goes, and what not to edit by hand. We take a small number of projects at a time, so you work with the people doing the work.

04

HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Those are the materials, written so another developer can read them later. This website is that kind of build: a hand-built static site, with a WebGL hero, video, and structured data.

Accounts, and state that has to survive a refresh, are a web app. We build that in Next.js, React, and TypeScript, and we scope it on its own. A brochure site does not need an application framework to open a menu.

People hire a web development company for pages, or for a product. We do both, as separate scopes. If the words vanish when scripts are blocked, the page was built wrong.

05

Who it is for

Owners, marketers, and agency leads in Canada or the United States who want a website developer for hire and can name the job: a new site, a front end, a move onto custom code, a fix, or one piece beside their current developer. Agency sub-projects can be white-label or credited.

If the brief is still open, paid discovery can turn it into a defined feature list and acceptance checks. If you already have a developer or agency, we can take a bounded part of the work and agree how it joins the wider project. Share the target date so we can assess capacity and dependencies before committing.

hehe.software is a small, independent studio based in Vancouver, British Columbia. We work remotely with businesses across Canada and the United States.

06

What to send, and what we can show

This website is a hand-built static site with a WebGL hero, video, structured data and a sitemap. It is a concrete example of our own web implementation. We also design and maintain nine App Store apps. For your website, the handoff includes the code, agreed editing route and checks of the pages and interactions actually built.

Send the current address if you have one, a rough page list, logo and type files, any design on hand, and who edits after launch. Unfinished copy is fine. Domain, hosting, and repository access can wait.

Ways to work with us

Built by us

We don’t show client logos. We show what we build and run ourselves — nine apps on the App Store, and this site.

Questions

Can you build from designs supplied by our agency?

Yes. Send the designs, page types, assets and editing requirements. We can take the front end as a sub-project and coordinate with whoever owns the CMS or API. Responsive behaviour, forms and release checks are included in the agreed scope.

How will we update a custom-coded site?

We decide the editing workflow before choosing the build. A developer-maintained static site and a CMS-backed site have different handoffs. Tell us who changes copy and how often, so routine edits do not depend on a process your team cannot use.

Can you work with our current developer or agency?

Yes. An agency can hire a sub-project, white-label or credited, and you can hire the front end while another developer keeps the rest. We share a repository and agree who publishes, so two drafts do not overwrite each other.

Do you maintain a site after launch?

Yes. Hourly suits fixes and small jobs. A monthly retainer suits maintenance, including on sites we did not build: edits, broken pages, and a speed check after a new script. We agree what it covers before it starts.

How do quotes work?

Pricing is quote-only. We scope the work and send a fixed quote or an hourly estimate, and we do not publish prices or ranges. Paid discovery covers a brief too open to price, and you keep the written scope if you stop. Start with mwe@hehe.software or the contact form.

Tell us what needs doing.

A short email is enough: what you have, what’s wrong or missing, and when you need it. We reply with questions or a plan.
